The Mission: Building a Neighborhood in the Terminal

Social Events From Coworkers to VUES Community

In a workplace as large as Pearson, it’s easy to feel like just another face in the crowd. We pass hundreds of colleagues every day, but rarely do we have the chance to sit down and truly talk. The Social Events pillar was created to break down the walls of our departments and turn "passing colleagues" into a real-life community.

This is the "living room" of VUES. We believe that the best parts of our jobs aren't the tasks we perform, but the people we perform them with.

Why Social Connection Matters

We designed this section to be the antidote to the "work-home-sleep" cycle.

  • Breaking the Silos: We bring together the ramp, the gate, the cockpit, and the office. By meeting in a social setting, we discover we have more in common than just a badge.

  • A High-Trust Environment: Every meetup is a "safe space" filled with verified colleagues who understand the unique stresses and joys of the aviation world.

  • Fostering Belonging: Whether you are new to the city or a 20-year veteran, our events ensure you always have a place to belong.

The Spirit of ACRA: Participation Over Everything

VUES is the proud successor to the Air Canada Recreation Association (ACRA), which was the gold standard for employee fun for decades. When the Toronto Chapter closed in December 2020, we lost our picnics, our cruises, and our holiday parties.

We are bringing that energy back. VUES is a volunteer-led, employee-driven initiative that focuses on participation, not just winning. We are reviving the "zest for innovative ideas" and the "spirit of friendly competition" that made ACRA legendary. This page is our way of ensuring that the tradition of "getting acquainted off-the-job" continues for a new generation.

What Kind of Events?

  • Casual Dinners & Drinks: Local meetups in Mississauga, Brampton, and Toronto to unwind after a long rotation.

  • Lively Meetups: From bowling nights and pub quizzes to coffee mornings for the early-shift crew.

  • Weekend Get-Togethers: Family-friendly picnics, park hangouts, and seasonal celebrations like holiday markets.

  • Cultural Milestones: Celebrating the diverse backgrounds of our team—if it matters to you, we celebrate it together.
